Late July and Race Week is over - and the general consensus was that it was a good one. We had good weather, great racing, our guests from away appeared to enjoy themselves and the club made some money - what more can you ask for? Congratulations to all the class winners and a big thank you to all the volunteers.
One aspect of race week which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to rain was the Heart and Stroke Flottilla which we had planned for Wednesday night. Our plan is to reschedule this (tentatively for August 9th) during the Monday night race. For anybody unaware of the format, Heart and Stroke will be down asking for donations - we'll ask each boat from the race to identify how many guests they can bring aboard during the race. In return for a donation to Heart and Stroke, the public can then particpate in the race. As well, we'll be organizing a spectator fleet from the motorboaters with the same kind of deal...stay tuned for more details...we'll be posting a sign up sheet shortly. It would be great if we could really get the numbers up for this event - encourage everyone to participate.
Next big event on the schedule for the NSTYA is the Truman Stright Regatta on the July 31st-August 1st weekend over in Pictou. It's a great little regatta with some excellent prizes and hospitality. Ghost, Picture Perfect, Spirit of Comfort and Vanish are heading over for this - why not join the fun and come along?
After that, we've got a new event scheduled for August 7th - this is an overnight race to Indian Rocks and back - starting at 6 p.m.
On the local front, Clive Pickles continues to challenge us with unusual courses every 4th Monday night and has come up with another interesting concept which he has termed 'The Three Rivers Race'. The details are:
Bermuda start. Spinnaker or white sail rating - boats will be given 2 start times depending on whether they want to use spinnaker or white sail - on your honour to start correctly and use the correct sails.
