HEAD FIRST INTO VICTORY!
Peter Toombs, of Charlottetown Yacht Club, after more than five hours of racing, secured victory in winning the prestigious and historic Prince of Wales Trophy. Vessel 'Head First', a Farr 30 yacht, finished fifteen minutes ahead of the second place boat on corrected time. The Prince of Wales continues to live up to its reputation of being a tough trophy to win, whether it's high winds, or like this weekend, over five hours of grueling light air sailing, with 25 miles of course and 14 marks. It is only the second time that an Island boat has won the Prince Of Wales Cup, when David Mosher, won with Blitz in the 80's. History of the Prince of Wales Regatta, (from RNSTS's web site) is that it is the most prestigious sailing race in the Maritimes. The trophy was gifted to the RNSYS in 1860 by Prince Edward, (later King Edward VII), to be raced for over a course on not less than 25 nautical miles in the approaches to Halifax Harbour.
